When John Oliver mocks your industry, something’s clearly wrong. Earlier this year, the comedian raked background check companies and credit bureaus over the coals.

His main criticism? These companies make it difficult for people to find out about – let alone correct – errors on their background information. 

And the thing is, he’s not wrong.

Why No One Likes Background Checks

If anything, Oliver left out many of the complaints employers have about traditional background checks: Inaccurate or incomprehensible results, long delays, poor customer service, hidden pricing, and a disrespectful candidate experience.

Despite these hassles, employers need to know who they’re hiring. Some industries mandate background checks, and all employers have an obligation to provide a safe workplace. Then there’s the prevalence of resume fibs.

Before we started GoodHire, we heard from many employers who were desperate for a solution that fit their business needs and didn’t alienate job candidates.

So, we reinvented the background check process.
