How To Embrace The Mobile Job Seeker

From reading the news to getting a date, people expect most of what they need to be accessible from their smart phone. In a tech driven world, it should come as no surprise that these attitudes extend to job searching.

A recent study revealed that 90% of job seekers use a mobile device during their job hunt. If you're hiring without a streamlined mobile option, you're likely missing out on job seekers "“ especially millennials, who will soon make up a majority of the job market.

Not only can you make yourself available to more candidates by updating your approach, you'll fill your jobs even faster with the instant communication made possible by smartphone technology.

Here are three ways to jumpstart your mobile recruiting strategy.

1. Optimize Your Careers Page

Job seekers expect their online experience to be streamlined and easy to use. Before you start your mobile campaign, take a look at your existing careers page. Does it load quickly? Is it accessible from the most up-to-date browsers? How many pages do you have to click through from your homepage to get there?

If the process is difficult, candidates will likely give up on applying, or worse "“ spread the word about your antiquated systems on social media. Find the pain points yourself by going through the process as an incoming candidate, or ask applicants to give their thoughts on where you can improve.

2. Next, Tackle Mobile

Once your careers page is working like a well-oiled machine, make sure to get the most out of your revamp by optimizing it for mobile devices.

Pull up your site on a smartphone. Is the link to your careers page prominently displayed? What is your mobile application process like? If it takes more than two clicks to submit, you're costing yourself candidates. Think about it, do you know how to submit a resume from your phone?

Enable an easy one-click apply function to get the key information from the most candidates possible. In addition to optimizing for candidates, consider streamlining your candidates organization with an applicant tracker to make sure you can sift through all the new resumes you receive.

3. Broaden Your Scope

Times are changing, and your approach to attracting candidates should follow suit. Instead of insisting on a traditional resume and cover letter, consider accepting that information in the form of a social profile like LinkedIn.

Utilize your own social presence to advertise the jobs on your shiny new mobile platform. You may think your hiring process is working just fine, but by maintaining an old status quo, you could be missing out on the majority of a new generation of talented workers with fresh ideas.

Putting time and money into updating your hiring process may feel like a chore, but your efforts could result in big returns in candidate volume and quality. Refreshing your web presence can have a positive effect on the talent you attract, the rate at which you are able to get positions filled, and how your overall brand is perceived by both job seekers and customers.
